Euro 2024: Dominik Szoboszlai makes European Championship history despite Hungary's 3-1 loss vs. Switzerland

The second day of Euro 2024 saw Hungary lock horns with Switzerland in an early kick-off, with this RheinEnergieStadion showdown commencing at 9 a.m. ET (13:00 GMT).

Liverpool ace Dominik Szoboszlai was one of the biggest attractions in this game, with the Hungarian talent not only starting but also wearing the armband in his nation's Euro 2024 opener.

And with that, the former RB Leipzig attacker made history without even kicking a ball. Szoboszlai became the youngest player in history to captain his team at the European Championship, reaching this feet at the age of 23 years 7 months and 21 days.

Unfortunately, this memorable moment quickly turned into a nightmare as Szoboszlai's Hungary entered half-time 2-0 down thanks to goals from Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer.

Aebischer's goal came at the stroke of halftime, with the Bologna midfielder scoring a stunning goal in the 45th minute to double Switzerland's lead.

Hungary pulled one back in the 66th minute, with none other than Szoboszlai assisting Barnabas Varga to set up a nervy ending. However, Breel Embolo scored deep into added time to secure Switzerland a 3-1 victory.

Next up for Magyarok is a daunting showdown with Germany. The hosts are one of the favorites, meaning Marco Rossi's side will face an uphill battle to bounce back from Saturday's defeat.
