Euro 2024 is finally here. The prestigious European Championship kicks off on Friday, with hosts Germany getting things underway with an interesting showdown at the Allianz Arena. The continental heavyweights will face Scotland in this 3 p.m. ET fixture as Nagelsmann's men look to start things with a win.
While France, England, and Portugal are seen as the overwhelming favorites to win this competition, Germany enter this competition with hope of ending their recent abysmal run in major competitions.

Gundogan and Co. suffered a five-game winless run between March and September of last year. However, since Nagelsmann's arrival, the Germans have won four in eight, including back-to-back triumphs over fellow continental powerhouses France and the Netherlands.
On the flip side, Germany have not played a competitive match since beating Costa Rica 4-2 in the recent World Cup and subsequently crashing out. Toni Kroos has come out of retirement to play in this tournament, which is a major boost, but Nagelsmann's men have not been properly tested and could suffer as a result.
While Germany received automatic qualification as hosts, Scotland had to battle their way through the qualifiers and even came close to finishing ahead of Spain in Group A.

However, the Scottish have suffered a worrying dip in form lately. Clarke's side won their first five qualifiers in a row, including an unforgettable 2-0 victory over Spain at Hampden Park in March 2023. Unfortunately, the Tartan Army failed to win their last three qualifiers in a row and thus stumbled in their race with the Spaniards.
Things are worse when factoring in games across all competitions, having won only once in their last nine matches. That sole victory was a 2-0 triumph over Gibraltar, a result which should not propel Scotland's confidence. Nonetheless, the "away side" have beaten Germany before and will need to bring their A-game if they wish to pull this off again.
