Liverpool 'enquire' about sought-after Brighton defender Van Hecke

Van Hecke has been pushed for a move away from Brighton since last summer, when the Seagulls refused to let the Dutchman go. With his contract expiring in 2027 and the Dutch international refusing to extend, it's widely expected that Van Hecke will leave Brighton this summer.

According to Voetbal International, Arne Slot's Liverpool have enquired about the 25-year-old Van Hecke, who they see as an ideal addition to their defense. Sources tell Voetbal International's Joost Blaauwhof that there has been contact between both clubs, while Van Hecke and Liverpool have been in contact for longer.

The seemingly imminent extension of Ibrahima Konaté's contract does not affect Liverpool's interest in the World Cup-bound Van Hecke, who'd join a centre-back room with Virgil van Dijk, Konaté, Joe Gomez, and the injured Giovanni Leoni.

Van Hecke joined Brighton from Dutch side NAC Breda for a fee of €2 million in 2020. Since his move to the English South coast, Van Hecke has played 126 games across all competitions.
