UEFA EURO 2024: TV schedules, live streaming options, preview for Romania vs Ukraine - June 17

Both Romania and Ukraine will be hoping to get their respective UEFA EURO 2024 competitions off on the right footing when they lock horns on Monday. This is set to be the sixth appearance for Romania in a European Championship, and their first since 2016. Currently under the tutelage of Edward Iordanescu, who just so happens to be the son of former manager Anghel, the Tricolorii had a solid run during qualifiers during which they picked up six wins and four draws to beat Switzerland to top spot in the group by five points.

Notably, Romania managed to concede a measly five goals during qualifiers, and they will be reaally keen on making a statement in what is their first major international competition since exiting at the group stage juncture during 2016 version of the UEFA EURO. However, despite their strong run during qualifiers, Iordanescu's team have been quite disappointing since the start of 2024.

They failed to win any of their four pre-competition friendlies, including poor showings during scoreless stalemates against Bulgaria and shockingly, Liechtenstein. While they were able to come from three goals down against Colombia to nearly force a three-all draw, Romania nonetheless still lost that tie 3-2 and now will be seeking what would be their first win in any match since beating Switzerland 1-0 in a EURO 2024 qualifier back in November 2023.

As for Ukraine, they secured their ticket to this competition after successfully overcoming both Iceland and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the play-offs. Serhiy Rebrov's squad have quite a few names that will be quite familiar to fans of many of Europe's biggest teams, with players like Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin, Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudyrk, and Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko all expected to do their part if Ukraine want ot have any chance of getting out of a potentially tricky quartet.
