Mexico vs Jamaica -  Team news

Mexico reach this Copa América in shambles, having lost three of their last four matches and losing the dominance they had in Concacaf for many years. To make things worse, some of the top players in the team were left out so El Tri could see some new blood pumping through its veins. With no Memo Ochoa or Hirving Lozano in sight, the team led by Jaime Lozano will try to see players such as Edson Alvarez, Julián Quiñones, Uriel Antuna, and striker Santiago Giménez emerging in this competition while trying to claim three crucial points in their return to the Copa América.

Meanwhile, their rivals this Saturday will be Jamaica, one of the top teams in the Caribbean and who have a particular struggle when it comes to Copa América matches. The Reggae Boyz have never won a game in this tournament, and there would be no better way to do that than beating Mexico this weekend. Just like El Tri, Jamaica have some problems of their own following some harsh statements by Leon Bailey, who decided to step down from the team due to the way he has been treated by the Jamaican Federation. If Bailey lives up to his word, the team will rely on Michail Antonio, Bobby DeCordova-Reid, and goalkeeper André Blake to try and beat Mexico, although some of them have been named as doubts for Saturday's fixture.

Mexico vs Jamaica: Head-to-head

  • This will be the 2nd Copa América meeting between these national teams. The first one ended 2-0 for Mexico back in 2016.

  • Mexico and Jamaica have faced each other 28 times across all comps.

  • Mexico dominate Jamaica in their head-to-head meetings with 20 wins to their name.

  • Jamaica have only been able to beat Mexico three times. One of them came in the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup semi-finals, their most recent to this date.

  • Mexico is the only team from Concacaf to reach the Copa América final. They accomplished that feat in 1993 and in 2001, losing both title matches.

  • Jamaica has never been able to score a goal in a Copa América game.

  • The most recent match between Mexico and Jamaica took place in 2023. The game ended three-nil for Mexico.

  • Jamaica's coach Helmir Hallgrimsson has lost three of his four games against Mexico: one with Jamaica and two more back when he coached Iceland.
