Preview

Group F in Euro 2024 comes to a wrap on Wednesday, with the four participants all taking to the field simultaneously in two 3 p.m. ET (19:00 GMT) kick-offs. Portugal, who have already won the group and secured progression, face Georgia on the final day with Czechia lock horns with Türkiye in the other game.

Cristiano and Co. are through to the next round after winning their opening two games, beating Czechia 2-1 thanks to a stoppage-time winner before dispatching Türkiye 3-0 on Matchday 2. Georgia, on the flip side, lost 3-1 in a dramatic showdown with the Turks on Matchday 1 but won a point in the following round.

As mentioned earlier, Czechia lost 2-1 in their opener against the Portuguese before drawing 1-1 with Georgia. Türkiye, meanwhile, are the favorites to join Cristiano and Co. in the round of 16 after winning their opener 3-1. Unfortunately, the Crescent-Stars lost to the Euro 2016 champions in the following round and will need a positive result on the final day to secure progression.

Permutations

Portugal are through to the next round as group winners. Only Türkiye can match their current tally of six points, but with the head-to-head record being the first tiebreaker, A Seleção cannot be overtaken thanks to their 3-0 victory over Türkiye on Matchday 2.

Georgia are guaranteed to qualify for the knockout stage if they beat Portugal – they will finish third if Türkiye avoid defeat but will be split for second and third if Czechia win the other game. If two teams are tied on points and in the head-to-head record, the tiebreakers are overall goal difference, then overall goals scored, then disciplinary points, then European Qualifiers rankings. The Crusaders will get eliminated if they fail to win.

Türkiye will finish second if they avoid defeat on Wednesday. The Crescent-Stars will finish third if they lose and Georgia fail to beat Portugal. The Turks will finish fourth if they lose and Georgia pull off a shock win over Portugal.

Czechia will be eliminated if they lose. Schick and Co, will likely crash out if they draw as well but could finish third if Georgia fail to beat Portugal. In order to guarantee progression to the knockout stage, Ivan Hašek['s men must beat Türkiye — though they could still finish third with four points if Georgia win on the final day and overturn their inferior goal difference.

Round of 16 bracket: Who will face who in the knockout stage?

Portugal are the winners of Group F and will face the third-placed team from Group A or C (Hungary or Slovenia).

The runners-up in this group — Türkiye, Georgia, and Czechia can mathematically finish second — will face Group D winners Austria.

If the third-placed team qualify for the round of 16, they will face Spain.

Team news

Portugal: Rafael Leao is suspended for this match, with Pedro Neto in line to deputize. Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, could be rested but the captain is still searching for his first goal of the tournament and will be eager for minutes on the pitch.

Georgia: The Crusaders have no major issues.

Türkiye: Orkun Kokcu is a doubt but Irfan Can Kahveci and Arda Guller should be fine for this tie. Abdulkerim Bardakci is suspended for this game, however.

Czechia: Patrick Schick is a doubt for this game. Adam Hlozek could deputize in the Leverkusen striker's absence. Mert Gunok could return in goal for this fixture.

Key stats

  • Türkiye look to make it to the knockout stage of a European Championship for the first time since 2008.

  • Czechia are at risk of winning zero group-stage matches for only the second time in history. Interestingly, the only time this occurred was in 2016 when they faced Türkiye on Matchday 3.

  • The Crescent-Stars and Falcons have met twice before in the European Championship, with Türkiye winning on both occasions.

  • Portugal and Georgia have met only once before, with A Seleção winning 2-0 in that 2008 encounter.

  • Portugal look to win all three group-stage games in a European Championship for only the second time in history, having done this in 2000.
