Peru vs Chile -  Team news

After a woeful start in the CONMEBOL Qualifiers, Peru seem to have regained their old form with a string of decent results, which include three wins and two draws in their last five matches. Although their wins came against teams that did not make it to the Copa América, their draws came against Venezuela and Paraguay, and that should be used as a stepping stone for coach Jorge Fossatti to work with. The former Universitario boss called up some of the team's legends, such as Paolo Guerrero, and now they seem ready to face a tough Copa América group with the help of another in-form striker: Gianluca Lapadula.

Their rivals on Friday will be Chile, another struggling team from CONMEBOL who recently changed their coach in search for a boost that will lead them to where the team belongs. Their new boss, Ricardo Gareca, is well aware of Peru's capabilities after coaching them for over seven years, and while he has some top-caliber players at his disposal, his knowledge of the opponent could certainly give his side an edge for the upcoming clash. Additionally, the form shown by players such as Diego Valdés, Alexis Sánchez, and Ben Brereton Díaz could be enough to see Chile claiming their first points of the competition here.

While Chile has not reported any injuries ahead of this game, Peru may be forced to play without Christian Cueva and Bryan Reyna, who are dealing with muscular problems.

Peru vs Chile: Head-to-head

  • This will be the 22nd Copa América meeting between Peru and Chile.

  • Out of those games, Peru have claimed seven wins against Chile.

  • On the other hand, Chile have beaten Peru in eight of their previous Copa América matches.

  • Chile defeated Peru 2-0 in their most recent game.

  • Peru's most recent win against Chile came in 2021, when la Franjirroja claimed a 2-0 win over La Roja.

  • Chile's boss Ricardo Gareca will face Peru for the first time ever. "El Tigre" coached Peru between 2015 and 2022, leading them to a second-place finish in the 2019 Copa América.

  • Peru's coach Jorge Fossatti will face Ricardo Gareca for the third time ever. His record so far shows one win and one draw against the former Peruvian boss.
