After their 0-0 draw away at sc Heerenveen on Sunday, Ajax qualified for the Eredivisie play-offs for UEFA Conference League football. The Amsterdam giants play their semifinal against FC Groningen on Thursday, May 21st, but will not play at home.
Pop artist Harry Styles plays 10 concerts at Ajax's Johan Cruyff ArenA between May 16th and June 5th, including on May 20th and May 23rd, both one night before Ajax's play-off games. The scheduling has made it impossible for Ajax to play their home games in Amsterdam.
Instead, Ajax will play their play-off games at FC Volendam's Kras Stadion, which is a 36-minute bus ride away and has a capacity of just 6,800, nearly 50,000 lower than the Johan Cruyff ArenA (56,120).
An added scheduling caveat is that FC Volendam is also playing play-off games, but instead of fighting for European football, the club from the fishermen's town are fighting for their survival in the relegation play-offs. FC Volendam will face off against Willem II on Wednesday, May 20th, in Tilburg, and Saturday, May 23rd, in Volendam.
