Brilliant Mbekezeli Mbokazi puts in Man of the Match performance as Chicago Fire win

Mbokazi was rock solid at the back for Fire as they kept a clean sheet, winning all his duals and putting in several excellent tackles.

Swiss midfielder Maren Haile-Selassie scored the only goal of the game on 13 minutes, before Mbokazi helped Fire withstand huge pressure from the visitors.

The win was a third in a row for Fire in the Eastern Conference that has them in second place in the table behind Nashville. They have only conceded five goals in their seven games, the second best record in their conference.

Mbokazi has started all seven games for his new side this season and his top performances dispel any thoughts that he may struggle to settle outside the PSL. In fact, they will fuel those who believe he should be playing in a top five European league.

There was also a cameo in the game for Puso Dithejane off the bench, his second substitute appearance of the season.

Meanwhile, former Bafana Bafana international Bradley Carnell ended a horror start to the season when his Philadelphia Union side won 2-1 at Montreal.

Union had lost their first six games of the campaign with coach Carnell admitting they were “fragile”, all in start contrast to their incredible success of last season.

They fell behind again in Canada, but second half goals from Dane Japhet Sery Larsen and Jesús Bueno gave them a much-needed win.
