Klinsmann says possible unrest within squad could mean trouble for Norway at the World Cup

Klinsmann has wide experience both as a player and a coach from major tournaments. Now he warns Norway of one dilemma in particular before the FIFA World Cup this summer.

The German football legend is in Norway to attend a football conference at Norway's national arena at Ullevaal, and on Thursday, he warned coach Stale Solbakken that unhappy players within the World Cup squad will spell trouble for Norway at the prestigious tournament.

"You have to keep the positivity in the squad up every single day. Even if people have a bad day, and if there is conflict between players or someone in the staff, or if the media creates noise", says Klinsmann, according to NRK.

"Dealing with such internal conflicts and so-called 'man-management' is an important job for the coach", said Jürgen Klinsmann and issued a clear warning to Solbakken.

Klinsmann, who has led both Germany (2006) and the USA (2014) in the World Cup as a coach, spoke about the importance of keeping all the players in the squad happy.

It is particularly important to appease the players who do not get playing time. A few years ago, the World Cup squads were expanded to 26 players. That makes the job even more difficult, believes Klinsmann.

"I didn't like the expansion of the squads from 22 to 26 players that was introduced a few years ago. And that you are now allowed to substitute five players in the matches, instead of three. This causes additional problems."

"I would rather deal with 22-23 players, instead of having to disappoint even more players. And I'd rather put in three players that I'm sure will do a good job, rather than put two players in for the last few minutes to kill time", says Klinsmann.

Norway will face Iraq in their first game at the 2026 World Cup on 17 June.
