Euro 2024: England to make key change to midfield set-up ahead of crucial clash vs. Slovenia

England are gearing up for their final group-stage match of Euro 2024, with the Three Lions taking on Slovenia in a crucial fixture.

While Gareth Southgate's men have four points and will likely make the round of 16, the continental heavyweights will want to win their group and will need a victory on Tuesday to ensure that.

With that in mind, Southgate is plotting a key change to his midfield following back-to-back disappointing performances against Serbia and Denmark. As revealed by the Athletic, the national team boss will alter his midfield set-up.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has come under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, will be taken out of the starting eleven. While there have been shouts for Crystal Palace and Manchester United aces Adam Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo to start instead, Gareth is set to name Conor Gallagher in his lineup against Slovenia.

The Chelsea midfielder replaced Trent in the win over Serbia and the 1-1 draw with Denmark, thus showing he is ahead of the previous two in the pecking order. England's press has also come under criticism and that is another aspect that Gallagher should improve.

Conor enjoyed a lovely 2023-24 campaign with Chelsea and will want to take this opportunity to cement his spot in Southgate's lineup. However, history shows that Gareth could switch things up once they make the last 16.

Harry Kane and Co. are top of Group C with four points. Slovenia and Denmark are tied on two, meaning both nations could leapfrog England with a win on the final day. Regardless, four points should be enough to guarantee the Euro 2020 runners-up qualification as one of the four best third-placed teams should they fail to finish in the top two.
