Medeama win Ghana Premier League title for second time in four years

Medeama Sporting Club are Ghana Premier League champions once again. A stunning 5-2 victory over Heart of Lions on Sunday clinched the title for the Tarkwa-based side with a game to spare.

The victory opened an unassailable five-point gap over Bibiani Gold Stars heading into the final matchday of the 2025/26 season.

Braces from Kelvin Obeng and Derrick Fordjour, and a fifth goal from Prince Owusu were enough to power the Mauve and Yellows to victory at the TNA Park in Tarkwa.

It is Medeama's second Ghana Premier League title in four years and cements their status as the dominant force in Ghanaian domestic football in the modern era.

The triumph also continues an emerging dominance of the Western Region, who have seen their clubs win the last four league titles.

Medeama won the league in 2022/23, their first title. The following season, Samartex, based in Samreboi, also claimed their maiden Premier League crown in 2023/24. Then Gold Stars, from Bibiani won the title in 2024/25, making it three successive championships for clubs from the Western Region in Ghana. And now Medeama again in 2025/26.

Four consecutive Ghana Premier League titles. Three different clubs. All from the Western Region. It's success that has raised questions over the competence of traditional powerhouses Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, who have struggled in recent times.

Medeama's success also means they return to the continental stage and will compete in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League next season.
