Primera División Argentina - Standings prior to Week 14

[TABLE 30]

The Argentine Primera División continues to share quite a few surprises for their loyal fans, but league leaders Vélez Sarsfield managed to extend their lead at the top of the competition before the break. Now, the team sitting right behind them is Atlético Tucumán, who bounced back from a heavy loss to claim a narrow but deserved win over Racing two weeks ago. The third spot in the tournament belongs to Instituto, who are level on points with Huracán, but their better goal difference gives them the last podium spot after beating Banfield away from home on September 1.

Speaking of the most popular teams, Boca Juniors seem to be on the rise with 21 points, but this weekend will pair them up with Racing Club in what could be a close tie that ends their recent unbeaten run. As for River Plate, the team is still getting in shape under coach Marcelo Gallardo, but somehow they have not been able to win any matches with him at the helm. Their clash this week could be tricky to see their five-game run with only draws come to an end, as they will host the second-placed Atlético Tucumán.

Top games to watch

Central Córdoba vs Instituto - El Albirrojo travel to face the lowest-ranked team in the league with high hopes of claiming a big win here that could lead them to the top. Instituto has won two out of their last three against their hosts on Friday, but their most recent game ended with Central claiming an unexpected two-nil win, so it could be a tight game to predict!

River Plate vs Atlético Tucumán - Los Millonarios have not enjoyed Marcelo Gallardo's return to the dugout, at least in the domestic tournament. The team has struggled to win games with the legendary tactician, and to make things worse, their last two draws came without even scoring a goal. This week, Gallardo's men welcome Atlético Tucumán, who will try to turn things around when it comes to their luck at the Monumental and finally win a match here after four games without a victory when playing away from home.

[MATCH 4877106]

San Lorenzo vs Vélez Sarsfield - El Ciclón seem to be close to leaving the bottom of the table under new management, but before they can think of doing that, they must try to beat the league leaders for a third win in a row. Vélez claimed a 3-1 win against San Lorenzo away from home, which may give them high hopes for this match. San Lorenzo have defeated Vélez in five of their last six games at home, but this time a draw could be enough considering the huge gap between both teams when it comes to points.
