'I'm on the right track': Arsenal's Jurrien Timber provides positive injury update

In an interview with Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport, Timber looked back on the championship festivities with newly-crowned Premier League champions Arsenal.

"Yeah, I needed a day. Hopefully, there are a lot more parties coming, so I need to recover fast," said Timber, who went to the Emirates Stadium with teammates Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, and Bukayo Saka on the night of their title win.

"We'd had a party and thought to stop by the Emirates, thinking it would surely be calm. There were one or two people, but then the crowd grew, so we left. The moment we went to the Emirates, you hear what it does to people. 22 years is a long time, so it makes sense. When it actually happens, it does something to you."

'I'm on the right track'

The 24-year-old Timber has been out with an injury since March and has missed valuable time in the run-up to this summer's FIFA World Cup. Timber gave an update on his rehab process, less than a week before Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman reveals his World Cup squad.

"It's going well. I’m training hard to make a comeback. It’s not easy, but hopefully I’ll be able to compete next week," Timber said, aiming at the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, May 31st.

When exactly he'll be back is hard to say: "It’s been a long road. I’m well on my way, but it’s hard to say. I hope things keep improving, also for the World Cup, of course. If not, that would be a real shame. I’m on the right track, so I want to stay positive. I don’t want to say it’s a 90% chance I'll be there, but I’m on the right track."

Missing so many games for the Premier League champions has been hard on Timber, who was receiving high praise for his play this season.

"It’s been really tough. I picked up that injury in my first season here, but after that, I’ve been pretty much injury-free and played a lot. Not being able to be there now has been tough. I didn’t expect it to take this long. You miss out on some fantastic matches, but we’ve managed to pull it off. We’ve won the league, and now there’s another great match coming up; I hope to be there for it."

Looking ahead to the World Cup, Timber says he's in constant contact with Ronald Koeman and refuses to rule out missing the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

"I just give him updates on how things are going. He knows where I stand, and hopefully we’ll make it. There’s a chance I’ll be going to America."
