'Unfitting' Kasper Dolberg reportedly set to leave Ajax year into reunion

Kasper Dolberg, 28, rejoined Ajax in September 2025 after leaving the Amsterdam club in 2019 for OGC Nice. Ajax made a hurried €10-million deal with Anderlecht after striker Brian Brobbey was sold to Sunderland on deadline day, eventually announcing the reunion with Dolberg an hour and 15 minutes ahead of midnight's deadline.

Partially due to injuries, Dolberg's second stint in Amsterdam has failed to live up to expectations, with the Dane scoring just 3 goals and giving 3 assists in 19 Eredivisie games. His last goal in the domestic league dates back to January, while his last start was on February 21st against NEC (1-1 draw).

In the Amsterdam club's most recent Eredivisie game against bottom-feeders Heracles Almelo, interim manager Óscar García left Dolberg on the bench and instead gave youngster Don-Angelo Konadu minutes after taking starter Wout Weghorst off.\

According to Algemeen Dagblad, Dolberg's second spell in the Dutch capital will be limited to just one year, with technical director Jordi Cruyff preferring to sell the 56-time Danish international on his off-the-ball qualities and lack of pressing.

"Dolberg does not fit in our style of play," Algemeen Dagblad journalist Johan Inan quotes Cruyff, whilst also pointing out the difference in distance covered by Dolberg (10km) and Weghorst (12km).

Cruyff is set to overhaul the Ajax squad, with the former Barcelona director reportedly aiming to sign between 10 and 15 players, up to six of whom are meant for the starting XI.

Ajax are currently in fifth in the Eredivisie, trailing second-placed Feyenoord by four points in the battle for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Kasper Dolberg is under contract with Ajax until July 2029.
