Lukas Lerager says FC Copenhagen are experiencing the consequences of a narrow squad

The midfield orchestrator is currently playing his trade with Widzew Lodz in the Polish Ekstraklasa after he failed to reach an agreement with the reigning Danish champions for an extension of his contract.

Lerager made 219 appearances for FC Copenhagen before leaving the Lions for Polish side Widzew Lodz this winter.

However, the 32-year-old midfielder has since followed his former club, who for the first time find themselves confined to the relegation playoffs in the Danish domestic league.

According to Lerager, this is largely due to a squad that hasn't been put together in the right way.

FC Copenhagen's problems are due to the squad without the necessary width. Playing in three tournaments has taken its toll on them, and now we are seeing the consequences of that", says Lerager to Polish media Pilka Nozna.

"I myself have tried to play matches every three days, and the biggest challenge then was the mental recovery. The body may manage to recover in such a short time, but the head may still be tired."

"Some players may find it difficult to maintain full concentration and go into the next league game when they have just played in the European tournaments.  FC Copenhagen's squad has not been put together in the best way, and that affects the results", says Lerager
