Eusebio Di Francesco appointed coach of Serie A newcomers Venezia

Eusebio Di Francesco has been appointed coach of newly promoted Serie A side Venezia, the Italian club announced Wednesday.

Venezia will make their top-flight return after a three-year absence when the 2024/25 campaign gets under way in August.

"Venezia FC announces that it has appointed Eusebio Di Francesco as coach of the first team. Di Francesco has signed a two-year contract until the end of the 2025/26 season," said the new Serie A club in a statement on its website.

Di Francesco was notably Roma boss between 2017-19, when he guided the club to a third-place league finish and Champions League semi-final charge during his first season at the helm.

Most recently, he coached Frosinone but was unable to prevent the club slipping to relegation from Serie A in 2024.

The 54-year-old Italian replaces Paolo Vanoli, who secured Venezia's return to the top flight with a Serie B play-off final victory last term after finishing third in the table.

Vanoli left Venezia early June to take over Serie A side Torino.
