Malmo sack head coach Ramirez after only nine league matches in charge

Ramirez leaves the record Swedish champions 12th in the table, with 10 points from their first nine games, having lost the last four in a row.

A 3-2 defeat at home to newly-promoted Vasteras last Sunday (24th May) that sparked fan protests at Eleda Stadium proved to be the final straw for the club's hierarchy, bringing to an end the Spaniard's short tenure at MFF.

Ramirez was only appointed in December following a disappointing 2025 season in which Malmo failed to qualify for Europe and sacked former title-winning head coach Henrik Rydstrom. Officially taking over in January, Ramirez oversaw 15 matches in all competitions, earning six wins, one draw and eight defeats.

Assistant coach Endika Gavina and the club's head of performance Cristobal Fuentes have also lost their jobs.

On Saturday 30th, Malmo will play their final game before the break for the World Cup at home to Halmstad. Coaches Guillermo Molins and Mario Chavez will take temporary charge and will attempt to stop the recent rot against one of the few sides still below Himmelsblatt in the table.
