FC Volendam keep Feyenoord to draw, PSV crowned Eredivisie champions

Anything other than a Feyenoord win would crown PSV champions of the Eredivisie for the 27th time in club history. The Eindhoven outfit's 4-3 win over FC Utrecht on Saturday extended their lead over Feyenoord to 18 points, making Sunday's meeting with Feyenoord crucial in the title race.

Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie was forced to make two late changes, with Anel Ahmedhodzic and Anis Hadj Moussa ruled out with injuries. Gonçalo Borges and Thijs Kraaijeveld replaced the duo in the starting XI.

Following a cagey opening 20 minutes, during which only Raheem Sterling and Borges dared to take attempts at goal, FC Volendam crawled out of their shell and started popping up in and around Feyenoord's box more often. To no avail, however, as Aurelio Oehlers and Anthony Descotte only managed to deal pinpricks rather than knockout blows.

Following the break and with just 45 minutes left to keep PSV from winning the league, Feyenoord appealed heavily for a penalty when Ayase Ueda was taken down. Referee Allard Lindhout did not heed the call and instead booked Robin van Persie for continuous protests.

It took an hour for both sides to wreak some havoc in each other's boxes again, with Descotte testing Timon Wellenreuther at his near post and Jakub Moder forcing a smart save out of Kayne van Oevelen to keep the score level.

Aymen Sliti looked set to hand Feyenoord their first lead with just ten minutes remaining, but the young winger missed a wide-open header. Another late chance saw Volendam get their biggest chance of the afternoon, but Benjamin Pauwels was kept from scoring by Wellenreuther in the 88th minute.

Ayase Ueda took a rare attempt at goal in the second minute of injury time and fired a tricky header at Van Oevelen, who kept it out of his bottom corner to keep the score at 0-0 as PSV were seconds away from winning it all.

Volendam kept Feyenoord at bay, helping PSV win their 27th league title in club history as Feyenoord saw the gap to the Eindhoven giants widen to 17 points.
