Brasileirao games to watch this week

One more week of action is heading our way in the Brazilian Serie A, with the battle for the top spots getting tougher every week and with most of the teams forced to focus on the domestic tournament due to their exits from international competitions.

Brazil dominated the Quarter-final spots in both the Libertadores and Sudamericana with nine teams involved in those tournaments. Now, that list has been narrowed to two in each tournament, which will make domestic games more interesting with even more at stake.

At this point, there seems to be a battle between three forces to claim the title, as Botafogo, Palmeiras, and Fortaleza have distanced themselves from the rest of the teams in this tournament. This week, things will kick off in the lague with Palmeiras vs Atlético Mineiro, a tough game for the hosts despite Mineiro's current ninth spot.

Hours later, Botafogo vs Gremio will see the league leaders trying to extend their lead at the top. On the other hand, Gremio have to push forward if they want to avoid any relegation scares, as they currently stand three points away from the drop zone. Curiously, the most recent game between these teams at Botafogo's stadium ended 4-3 for Gremio, something that would damage O Galo's title chances.

Sunday will come with several fixtures to keep an eye on, one of them being Fortaleza vs Cuiabá. This might seem as an easy match for the hosts, but when you might be shocked to know that Cuiabá have won three in a row against the Tricolor de Aço, including a 5-0 win in their most recent clash this past June. The blue and red side must find a way to avenge that defeat, mainly because another loss here could put an end to their title hopes with only ten games left.

Last, but not least, this weekend will give fans a chance to witness another edition of the Classico Majestoso, featuring Sao Paulo vs Corinthians. The Tricolor Paulista are ranked fifth right now, but their rivals are deeply involved in the relegation battle, which may give Sao Paulo extra motivation, espcially due to Corinthians' shaky form all season long.

Without no further delay, here is the full list of Brazilian Serie A matches being held this week.
