Man Utd leading race to sign Atalanta's Ederson as Casemiro replacement

Casemiro confirmed in January that he will leave Man United at the end of the current campaign after four years at Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old has been immense for the Red Devils this term, especially since Michael Carrick took charge in January, with the Brazilian scoring five goals in his last 12 Premier League appearances.

Influential as a destructive ball-winner and delivering in the final third, Casemiro's absence will be sorely felt next season unless a quality replacement is signed.

Luckily, Man United are already in the market for a new midfielder, and Atalanta's Ederson is one of several on their radar.

The Italian giants want £39m for their prized asset, though with his contract expiring in 2027, there is growing belief a deal can be struck for less.

That will be music to the ears of United fans, who will be delighted to read that the Red Devils have leapt to the front of the queue by offering him a giant contract proposal worth €4.5m a year (around £75,000 per week).

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, transfer journalist Mateo Moretto revealed how Man United have blown Atletico Madrid out of the water.

"Manchester United would be ready to offer Ederson a net salary of €4.5 million per year. Arsenal has also enquired about him," Moretto said.

"United has surpassed Atletico with its contract proposal. However, no club has yet reached an agreement with Atalanta. United is the club with the greatest financial room."

A combative and robust midfielder just like Casemiro, Ederson has made 39 appearances in all competitions for Atalanta this term, scoring twice, and could turn out to be the Brazilian's replacement.
