Rounding up the Nedbank Cup semi-finals in numbers with several 'firsts' for the competition

City edged second-tier Casric Stars 1-0 in their last-four clash, while Galaxy needed penalties to beat lower-league Milford FC following a 1-1 draw.

We round up the numbers from the semi-final clashes and the 2026 competition to date.

0 – The dream ended for both second-tier clubs in the 2026 semi-finals, meaning neither will appear in the final on May 2. Both Casric Stars and Milford FC were narrow losers in the last four, but can look back on an excellent campaign.

0 – Durban City have never won a major competition in their history, either in their current guise or as Maritzburg United. They lost the 2018 Nedbank Cup final and the 2019 Telkom Knockout decider. Third time lucky?

1 – One of Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic or his Durban City counterpart Pitso Dladla will win the first piece of silverware of his career when he lifts the Nedbank Cup in the final on May 2.

1 – Milford FC lost in a penalty shoot-out in the Nedbank Cup for the first time in their 4-3 defeat via spot-kicks to TS Galaxy. It was the fourth shoot-out in their history, and they had won the previous three.

1 – The goal that Galaxy conceded against Milford FC in their 1-1 semi-final draw was the first they had let in during the 2026 Nedbank Cup campaign.

1 – Galaxy will face Durban City in the 2026 Nedbank Cup final. Their only other meeting in the competition came in 2025, when City, as a second-tier side, defeated Galaxy 2-1 in Durban in the Last 16.

2 – Galaxy have reached their second Nedbank Cup final. They also appeared in 2019 as a second-tier side, when they famously defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in Durban thanks to a Zakhele Lepasa penalty to become the only lower-league team to lift the trophy.

2 – Durban City are also into their second Nedbank Cup final, though the last time, in 2018, they were known as Maritzburg United. On that occasion they lost 1-0 to Free State Stars after Goodman Dlamini scored for the latter in Cape Town. Ironically, Free State Stars would later sell their franchise to Casric Stars, whom Durban City beat in this year’s semi-finals.

2 – Victor Letsoalo scored for Galaxy against Milford FC, his second goal of the 2026 campaign. That takes him level with seven other players at the top of the scorers’ charts this season, along with TJ Diedericks (CR Vasco da Gama), Pule Ekstein (AmaZulu), Lundi Mahala (Richards Bay), Moeti Mofokeng (Jacksa Spears), Thuso Mogale (Casric Stars), Bradley Mojela (Sekhukhune United) and Siphosethu Ndlabi (Milford).

2 – Casric Stars failed to find the back of the net in their 1-0 semi-final loss, only the second time they have been kept scoreless in their six Nedbank Cup ties. The other occasion was against Orlando Pirates in this year’s Last 16, where they drew 0-0 but won on penalties.

2 – Siphosethu Ndlabi scored for Milford against Galaxy, his second goal of the Nedbank Cup campaign. That draws him level with Menzi Chili on the all-time scorers’ list for the club in the Nedbank Cup.

3 – This year’s finalists, Durban City and Galaxy, have met three times before in all competitions and City have won every time. Aside from their 2-1 win over Galaxy in the 2025 Nedbank Cup, they won both home and away league meetings this season 2-0.

3 – Milford bow out after three draws and a single win in their four games in the Nedbank Cup, meaning they did not actually lose a game outright. They won two penalty shoot-outs and lost one, their semi-final with Galaxy.

3 – Milford’s 3-0 win over Mkhambathi in the Last 16 this year remains their biggest – and only – win in the Nedbank Cup after four seasons of competing.

3 – Casric Stars had defeated top-flight opposition in the form of Orlando Pirates (Last 16) and AmaZulu (quarter-finals), but could not make it third time lucky against Durban City, who beat them 1-0 in the semi-finals.

10 – The penalty shoot-out between Galaxy and Milford was the 10th time in this year’s Nedbank Cup that spot-kicks were needed to settle a tie. That is a record in the competition, beating the nine occasions in 2021. Fourteen ties this season have gone to extra time, which is also a record.

69 – The total number of goals scored in the Nedbank Cup this season from 30 games, an average of 2.30 per game.

450 – Durban City goalkeeper Darren Keet and defender Siphamandla Ncanana have both played in excess of 450 minutes in this year’s Nedbank Cup, the most of any players in the competition.
