Halmstad beat Orgryte in Allsvenskan basement battle as Kalmar climb

Halmstad 2-0 Orgryte

Crowd disruption meant Orgryte's previous match against Goteborg finished 24 hours later than planned. That disrupted their preparation to face Halmstad, while conceding late in the derby did nothing to help morale.

Halmstad, meanwhile, had shown signs of improvement, as they drew at high-flying Elfsborg last time out to end their three-game losing run.

It seemed like the home side had no better chance to earn a first win of the season, and it's a chance they took - 32 minutes in, a low Ludvig Arvidsson cross was half-cleared to Rocco Ascone, who caught it sweetly on the half-volley and it flew past the goalkeeper.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, teenager Arvidsson capped off a memorable afternoon by latching onto a Hussein Carneil through ball, holding off the challenge of his marker and prodding the ball in off the post.

OIS conjured up a handful of efforts on goal in reply, but they failed to find a way through and Halmstad earned their first win at the ninth attempt, moving into 14th above Goteborg on goal difference, while Orgryte's fourth defeat in a row sees them replace HBK at the foot of the table.

Kalmar 2-1 Degerfors

While Orgryte are struggling, Kalmar are the best-performing of the three promoted sides, reaching 10 points with a home victory over Degerfors, who are now a point behind and without a win in five.

The key moment came two minutes before half-time, when Arsenal loanee Charles Sagoe Jr ran onto a through ball down the left and pulled it back across the area. It looked to have evaded everyone, until the arriving Rony Jansson stretched for it and sent it bobbling into the bottom corner.

If that finish was scruffy, then Charlie Rosenqvist's was anything but when he put daylight between the teams with a quarter of the match to go - a searching cross from Jansson was met with a cushioned volley from the teenager which gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Kalmar are up to ninth, ahead of Malmo on goal difference, while Degerfors are 12th and could drop into the bottom three if results later in this round go against them.
