Ajax loanee Chuba Akpom joins Ipswich Town after sealing promotion

Ajax loaned Chuba Akpom out to Ipswich Town with the option for the English side to make it a permanent deal. According to several sources, the deal would become permanent if Ipswich Town clinched promotion to the Premier League, with Ajax being paid £8 million (€9.2 million) in the process.

Ipswich Town were promoted to the Premier League after beating Queens Park Rangers 3-0, thus pipping Millwall and Southampton to a second-place finish in the Championship.

In 29 Championship appearances, Akpom scored just two goals and assisted none. The 30-year-old Englishman started just seven games, with his last start (and goal) dating from Ipswich's 3-0 win over Oxford United on New Year's Day. In Ipswich's last 15 games, Akpom made just five appearances (85 minutes) and stayed on the bench for the remaining 10.

In 2023, Chuba Akpom joined Ajax from Middlesbrough for a reported fee of €12.3 million, but failed to make a lasting impact in Amsterdam, as the club struggled amid severe unrest. In 68 appearances across all competitions, Akpom scored 23 goals.
