Uruguay vs Brazil – Team news

Uruguay enter the KO stage on a high, following their three-win run in the group stage that saw them claim victories against Panama, Bolivia, and the United States. At this point of the competition, La Celeste is the top scoring team in the competition with nine goals to their name, with Darwin Núñez and Maxi Araujo leading the pack with two goals each. Added to their contributions, Fede Valverde has also been one of the best footballers for the Uruguayans, who will welcome coach Marcelo Bielsa back to the dugout after a one-match ban.

Their rivals on Saturday will be Brazil, a team that uncharacteristically ended the group stage in second place behind Colombia in Group D. A Canarinha is still unbeaten in the tournament, but only one of their games has ended in a win for Dorival Junior's men. If the veteran coach wants to turn things around, then he will need a massive contribution by players such as Lucas Paquetá, Raphinha, and Rodrygo, who are expected to lead the line against the Uruguayans.

The game is bound to keep fans on the edge of their seats, with Uruguay being able to field the best possible squad. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Brazil, who will have to face this key game without Vinicius Jr, who picked up his second yellow card against Colombia and will have to sit this one out for the Verdeamarelha.

  • Uruguay's last Copa América win against Brazil took place in 1995, when los Charrúas claimed a 6-4 penalty win over Brazil to win the title.
