Last year, América and Guadalajara faced each other in the same stage, and while América had the lead after the first leg, Chivas was able to rise from the ashes and claim a 3-1 win. Cruz Azul vs Monterrey: La Máquina put up quite a performance on Thursday, claiming a one-nil lead in the series at Rayados' stadium. Now, things seem to be on a roll for Martín Anselmi's men, who could even lose by one goal and still make it to the title clash.
On the other hand, Monterrey are trying to overcome a mental hurdle speaking of semi-final ties, as they lost in this same stage during this semester's Concacaf Champions Cup, and they seem destined to repeat that exit in the domestic competition. If they are to play the title clash next week, then coach Fernando Ortíz will also have some demons to escape from, as the former América boss has never been able to come back in a tie where he lost or drew the first match.
