Preview

Group A in the 2024 Copa América comes to a wrap this Saturday, with all four teams with options to make it to the next round. Argentina will lock horns with Peru in a game where La Albiceleste is closer to grab the top spot of the lot. On the other hand, Perú has claimed one point in the competition, and the Peruvian side will have to overcome a massive hurdle in this game, since they have not defeated the Argentines in 27 years.

The other clash will feature Canada and Chile, a game where surprisingly the team from the Northern side of the continent have the upper hand over the two-time Copa América champions. This will be the first meeting between these clubs in almost 30 years, and it will be pretty interesting to see how both sides present themselves to try and win all the points here and with the runner-up spot as the only option for both teams.

Permutations

Argentina are top of the group with six points, and only a tragedy would see them dropped from that spot. As things stand, La Albiceleste need one point to secure the first place. But even if they are unable to win that point, they can secure the top place if they avoid losing by three goals.

Canada are currently second in Group A, following their win against Peru on Tuesday. A win for Jesse Marsch's men will do the trick and seal their spot in the next round during their Copa América debut. If they are not able to do so, a draw will be enough to see them through, especially if Peru do not win their match.

Chile are currently third following their poor start with a draw and a loss, but they control their destiny against Canada. Only a win will see the two-time Copa champions getting to the next round, but in the event of a draw or a loss, Gareca's men would suffer the embarrassment of being eliminated after just three matches and possibly in last place of the lot.

Peru have the toughest test of the bunch, as they also need a win to claim a spot in the next round. The issue here is that not even a win would do the trick for them if Canada beats Chile, as they would finish third and out of the competition. In case Canada and Chile draw their match, all Peru will need to do is to improve Canada's goal difference to reach the next round...but one way or the other, they must win against Argentina.

Quarter finals bracket: Who will face who in the knockout stage?

The winner of this group -as things stand, Argentina- is set to face the runners-up in Group B, a spot that is currently up for grabs between Ecuador and Mexico.

The runners-up in this group — Canada, Chile and even Peru can mathematically finish second — will face Group B winners. At this point, the team they would be facing is Venezuela.
