Sekhukhune United sign former Mamelodi Sundowns defender

Coetzee, who was schooled at Ajax Cape Town and was once touted as the brightest talent in the country before injury stunted his career, left Sundowns at the end of last season and has been clubless since.

He made over 130 appearances in eight years at Sundowns and won 14 trophies during his stay.

He had looked set for a move to Glasgow Celtic early in his career, having briefly become the youngest-ever Bafana Bafana international at the age of 17, a record he later lost to Fagrie Lakay.

He was much like the current Mbekezeli Mbokazi in terms of his immediate impact for club and country, but when the medical at Celtic revealed a chronic knee problem, they pulled out and he later went to Sundowns.

But his stay was punctuated by injury and he made just 33 league starts in his final four seasons before leaving.

He had a lengthy trial at Sekhukhune in September last year, but has only now signed after regaining full fitness.

He was on the bench for Saturday’s Betway Premiership clash with Magesi FC.
