EXCLUSIVE: Rosengren on Malmo's title 'goal' and AIK's Flataker predicts 'good year'

Rosengren had more reason to be optimistic, after Malmo came away from AIK's Strawberry Arena will all three points following a very hard-fought 1-0 win, returning to winning ways after a first stumble of the season, while AIK have now suffered successive losses following a promising start.

22-year-old Rosengren provided the spark for the only goal of the game, even if it won't go to his goals and assists tally. When he spoke to Flashscore after the match, he was happy to play his part, but also quick to compliment his teammates, before going on to explain how things are different this year after a poor 2025.

You played your part in the goal - you didn’t get the goal or assist but you were still the creative force for the team.

"Exactly! I wish we could have hockey assists in football as well! Of course it was nice to be a part of the goal and it was also a lovely pass from Haksa (Sead Haksabanovic) to Erik (Botheim) so it’s mostly their goal."

But the game was won at the back today, especially late on in the second half with an amazing performance from your goalkeeper Johan Dahlin. How does he do it at 39 years old?

"He’s a machine! I hope my body looks like that when I’m 39! He’s really well trained and he’s putting in a lot of hard work to be in that shape. It’s fantastic to have three goalkeepers in the squad who are at the top level in Allsvenskan, and Johan was fantastic today."

You’ve had two big away wins in a row against Djurgarden and now AIK. Are these the type of games you’re winning this season that you weren’t winning last season?

"Yes I think we had problems last season to win these kinds of games, away from home. We have this mentality to win and do what it takes to win - that’s also important. I think the mentality is from the manager (Miguel Angel Ramirez), of course, but also, I think, us players as a group. We have stuck together and now we are fighting for each other and you can win a lot if you do that."

Including the league title this season?

"We will do everything we can to win! That’s our goal."

Flataker was brought on early in the second half to add an extra dimension to the AIK attack. The Norwegian contributed to a side that was much more dangerous going forward with him on the pitch, but the Stockholm side did everything but score.

Despite a second loss in five to start the season, the forward believes his team can achieve the big things expected of a club like AIK, even if they are still just "babies" under new manager Jose Riveiro.

You had so many chances today and you did everything but score. How do you summarise your side's attacking performance?

"I think, first off, that we didn’t show much courage, we didn’t press with the same intensity that we did in the second half. But in the second half we showed heart, we got the fans with us and went so close, but football is not always fair! The ball didn’t go in and we lost the points."

What can the team work on in training after a match like that where you did everything right, but you just didn’t have the bit of luck needed against an amazing goalkeeper?

"That’s a good question! I think we just have to work on what we were working on before and improve that. The goals will come and the points will come, I’m sure. Yeah, just keep working and it will come. Stick together now - that’s very important."

You’ve got a relatively new manager, do you feel what he wants from you is being implemented, or is it taking some time?

"No, I think we know what to do now and we have to improve on it. As he says, we’re just babies still! We will grow and then we will be teenagers and then we will be adults! You have to build something together and it takes time - this is just the start. And it’s going to be good!"

After three unbeaten matches unbeaten, you’ve come up short against two of the powerhouses of Swedish football. Are you still confident you can compete with these bigger sides?

"Of course the aim is always to win! AIK is a club that should be at the top and I think we can do it this year. As you saw in the second half against Malmo today we had more chances, especially in the second half, but they still won the three points. So, we just need to keep working and I think it’s going to be a good year."
