It keeps their excellent form going in what is the first of seven away matches in a row, while Magesi missed the chance to move off the bottom of the table.
Silva strikes again
Chiefs took the lead just past the half-hour mark, and it was a great finish from Flavio Silva.
The ball was headed into his path by Glody Lilepo and, with his back to goal, Silva swivelled and placed the ball into the far corner of the net.
It had been a struggle up until then, and Silva’s strike was the first shot on target at either end, but a moment of precision and skill opened the scoring.
It was a second goal in as many games for Silva, and the third time this season he has scored in back-to-back league matches, as he took his tally to nine in all competitions.
Duba doubles it
One goal quickly became two as Wandile Duba doubled the advantage four minutes later.
Magesi goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze came to collect a corner but collided with his own player and ended up spilling the ball.
It fell into the path of Duba, who drilled low and hard into the back of the net from a tight angle.
It was a third goal in four games for the in-form Duba, and he is now into double figures in his career, with 10 goals in 57 appearances (36 starts).
Shabalala makes it three
Mdu Shabalala got in on the act with the third goal for Chiefs on 62 minutes.
Chiefs substitute Reeve Frosler had only been on the field for a matter of minutes when he raced to the byline and cut the ball back for Shabalala.
The midfielder took a touch before finishing into the far corner, showing great composure as he did so.
It was his second goal in three games and a fifth of the season overall.
Magesi get one back
Magesi pulled a goal back, but Chiefs will be disappointed with the manner of it.
A free-kick from Mcedi Vandala was sent into the box and Diteboho Mofokeng ghosted between defenders to head into the net.
It was a good header, but too many Chiefs defenders were ball-watching to allow him the chance.
It was a first-ever goal in professional football for the former Royal AM centre-back.
Mayo off the bench
Khanyiso Mayo had only just come back from a long spell on the sidelines but got the fourth goal for Chiefs with a powerful header.
Again Frosler was the provider, this time with a superb cross from the touchline that was perfect for Mayo.
The forward netted his first goal since September and just his second in a Chiefs shirt during this loan spell.
Five in a row for Chiefs
Chiefs claimed a fifth successive league victory for the first time since they won eight in a row in the 2019/20 season under Ernst Middendorp, that fateful campaign in which they lost the league title on the final day after drawing 1-1 with Baroka FC.
It has been quite the turnaround in form for the side when you consider they had lost three games in a row before this current sequence of success.
They have, in fact, not drawn any of their last 10 games (W7 L3) since a 0-0 stalemate against TS Galaxy in early December. If you extend that to all competitions, it is 15 games (W10 L5).
Their current run has been built on a tight defence, conceding only twice in the five games and scoring 12 times.
Those goals they have netted constitute 43% of their entire season total in the league, having managed only 16 goals in their other 18 fixtures.
Where does this leave us?
Chiefs move six points clear of AmaZulu in fourth to have a firm grip on third place and CAF Confederation Cup football next season.
But wait a minute, they are also now 10 points behind second-placed Orlando Pirates with a game in hand and a clash against The Buccaneers to come on April 26.
That could cut the deficit to four points. Is CAF Champions League football still a possibility? It looks a long shot, but …
Magesi stay bottom of the league, trailing Orbit College and Marumo Gallants by two points, with all three sides having six games to go. You feel like it is just those three clubs left in the relegation battle.
Chiefs are next in action on Saturday when they go to Polokwane City in another trip to Limpopo, while Magesi host Durban City on Sunday.
