The Rubro-Negro hold a three-point lead over Botafogo, which they will aim to increase this weekend when they lock horns against Cuiabá, a team that has not been able to win any of their last four games.
Speaking of Botafogo, the team in second place are gearing up to face Atlético Mineiro, where both black and white sides need the win for different reasons. O Glorioso are keen on keeping the battle for the top spot alive, while the Galo need to go back to winning ways after a draw and a loss in their two last matches.
Another game to keep an eye on this weekend has to be Palmeiras vs Bahía. Both teams get to the game with 27 points, and whoever wins the game will have a legitimate chance of reaching the top spot. Palmeiras dropped points in their last game, and if they are keen on keeping their title hopes up, they must find a way to defeat the Tricolor de Aço.
Speaking of the other side of the table, Fluminense ended their losing streak with a draw against Internacional on Thursday, but it was not enough to see them leaving the bottom of the standings. It has been a complicated week for the Fluzao, with Mano Menezes taking over as coach and following a break-in by fans into the team's facility as a sign of protest. Now, the players will want to turn things around when they face Fortaleza, a team currently ranked ninth and who lost to Vasco da Gama last Wednesday.
