Preview

Group A in the 2024 Copa América will see its end on Sunday. Both games will be held at the same time to avoid any foul play from any of the teams involved. In order of relevance, Mexico and Ecuador will lock horns in a do-or-die clash set to be played at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, with both teams still in the race to reach the next stage. Their most recent meeting in a Copa América edition took place in 2015, with

The other clash will feature Jamaica and Venezuela, two teams living different moments of the competition. As things stand Jamaica have no chance to reach the next round following their losses to Mexico and Ecuador. On the other hand, Venezuela has qualified to the next round with their victories over Ecuador and Mexico. Their match, which could see Venezuela winning their group unbeaten for the first time ever, will be held at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Permutations

Venezuela are top of the group with six points, and one point here would be enough to secure that place without needing the tiebreakers. La Vinotinto has never won their three group stage games in a Copa América, which means that doing so would be historic for Fernando Batista's men.

Ecuador are currently second in Group B, following their win against Jamaica and despite their loss to Venezuela. The Ecuadorians need a draw to reach the next stage, while a win would only confirm their spot in the KO rounds. In case their score is combined with Venezuela's to see Ecuador with a better goal difference, then La Tricolor would climb to the top spot.

Mexico are currently third following their win against Jamaica and their first-ever loss to Venezuela in a competitive match. El Tri can't afford to lose this game, otherwise they will be out of the competition in the group stage for the third time in their last four performances. Mexico has a positive record against Ecuador in Copa América games, with three wins in five matches. Nonetheless, this version of the Mexican team is far from being one of the best in history.

Jamaica have sealed their destiny after two losses, which have condemned them to leave the competition once this match is over. The Reggae Boyz managed to score their first-ever Copa América goal after eight matches, and now, their only motivation ahead of Sunday's match will be to collect their first point in this competition after three failed attempts.

Quarter finals bracket: Who will face who in the knockout stage?

The winner of this group -as things stand, Venezuela- is set to face the runners-up in Group A, a spot that will be allocated to Peru, Chile, or Canada.

The runners-up in this group will get to face Argentina in the Quarter finals. With all results in mind, Ecuador seem to be the safe bet to face La Albiceleste. The only thing standing in their way is Mexico's pride and that head-to-head match between them, which could be considered a KO game on its own.
