Malmo end Djurgarden's perfect start as Elfsborg secure win at Degerfors

Djurgarden - Malmo

Two giants of Swedish football met at 3Arena in Stockholm with the home side looking to continue their perfect start, while Malmo were keen to prove their opening day draw with Orgryte was no more than teething issues.

Djurgarden had enough possession in the first half to continue their winning form, but weren't creative enough, as they had 10 shots to the visitors' three, but Patric Aslund's effort was the only one on target, and was kept out by Robin Olsen.

On the hour mark, Malmo made their hosts pay with their first effort on goal - Otto Rosengren's drilled croner to the back post was met by Sead Haksabanovic, and the former Djurgarden man caught it sweetly with a cushioned volley that sailed into the bottom corner.

But just as in the first 45 minutes, the Iron Stoves had around two thirds of the ball but only one effort on goal to show for it, as Bo Hegland went closest to denying Olsen a clean sheet. MFF held on for the win, which was marred by losing Pontus Jansson to injury in added time.

Degerfors 0-1 Elfsborg

Degerfors responded to a heavy loss to Sirius in round one by cruising past Halmstad last time, but for the third time, the away side in their fixture has taken all three points, as Elfsborg joined Malmo at the top on seven points thanks to a 1-0 win at Stora Valla.

As in Stockholm, the first half was low on chances, and as in Stockholm, the only goal arrived in the third quarter of the game from a set piece. Elfsborg won a free-kick just outside the hosts' box, and Julius Magnusson whipped it around the wall and past goalkeeper Matvei Igonen.

Ludvig Fritzson went closest for the home side, as Marcus Rafferty went down on th edge of the area only to be booked for simulation, but in truth, Degerfors didn't do enough to get back into the game. Elfsborg sit top of the table, ahead of Malmo, if only on alphabetical order.
