Champions League surprise Bodo/Glimt humiliated by reigning champions in Norway

Viking on Saturday evening showed why they are defending champions in Norway when they, in the comfort of their own stadium, humiliated Bodo/Glimt by a scoreline of 5-0.

It was Bodo/Glimt's biggest defeat in the Norwegian Eliteserie since their 6-0 loss against Valerenga in 2019.

The goal show kicked off after only five minutes when Danish striker Peter Christiansen put the home side ahead, and nine minutes later Kristoffer Askildsen extended the lead thanks to an assist by former Brondby player Joe Bell.

The Bodo/Glimt rearguard obviously hadn't learned their lesson as Simen Kvia-Egeskog scored his first of two goals to give Viking an astonishing 3-0 lead after only 16 minutes.

Kvia-Egeskog then scored his second of the afternoon after 74 minutes before Zlatko Tripic rounded off a glorious night for the home side to make it 5-0 three minutes from the end.

"I actually think it's deserved", said an honest Bodo/Glimt coach, Kjetil Knutsen, after the game.  "This was embarrassing and humiliating and so far from what Glimt should be. And we have to be impressed by the energy and power of Viking."

Bodo/Glimt will get a chance to redeem themselves when they face Sarpborg away on Wednesday evening next week.
