What are this week's must-watch games?

Brentford vs Liverpool live this Saturday at 10 a.m. ET exclusively on Peacock

Will Liverpool bounce back from their mini-slump in the Premier League? While the Merseyside giants are four points ahead of closest rivals Arsenal while boasting a game in hand, Slot's men have drawn their last two English top-flight fixtures and desperately need a return to winning ways. Unfortunately, Salah and Co. visit Brentford, a team with an impressive home record, on Saturday. However, Thomas Frank's men are winless in their last three Gtech Community Stadium fixtures and are thus not invincible. Do not miss this showdown.

Juventus vs Milan live this Saturday at 12 p.m. ET on Paramount+, Fox Deportes, and fuboTV

Juventus and AC Milan, Italy's two biggest clubs, renew their bitter rivalry this weekend with the Old Lady hosting the Rossoneri in Serie A. This is a rematch of their recent Supercoppa Italiana semifinal battle, a game in which Leao and Co. won 2-1 before eventually lifting the title. Additionally, Motta's men remain unbeaten in the league but have drawn their last three games in a row. The visitors, on the other hand, have one win in three but that sole victory came in their most recent outing, meaning AC Milan enter this fixture with the upper hand.

Atlético Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen live this Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET on Paramount+ and ViX

Atletico Madrid have been nothing short of sensational in La Liga this season, leading the Spanish top-flight race, but can Simeone's men translate this into UEFA Champions League success? Los Rojiblancos are currently in 11th and are thus headed for the playoffs as things stand, boasting four wins out of six. Leverkusen, meanwhile, occupy one of the coveted top eight spots and will need to hold on to receive a bye to the quarterfinals. The visitors are also in spectacular form, winning their last 11 matches in a row, and will look to become the first team to triumph at the Metropolitano this season since Lille on Matchday 3 of this competition.`

PSG vs Man City live this Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET on Paramount+ and ViX

Manchester City resume their UEFA Champions League campaign a week after throwing away a 2-0 lead at Brentford to draw 2-2, hoping for a turnaround in Europe. This fixture follows Sunday's trip to Ipswich Town, meaning that the weekend result could heavily influence their confidence. PSG, on the other hand, have been disastrous in Europe, winning only two out of six fixtures and currently sit outside of the playoff spots. Victory over Guardiola's side would see Barcola and Co. leapfrog the Cityzens – and potentially others — in the standings but that is easier said than done.

Man United vs Rangers live this Thursday at 3 p.m. ET on Paramount+ and ViX

Manchester United is back in UEFA Europa League action on Thursday as Ruben Amorim looks to make three consecutive European wins. The Red Devils recently pulled off a heroic FA Cup victory over Arsenal despite being reduced to 10 men and have since beaten Southampton 3-1, with Amad Diallo scoring a hat-trick. Unfortunately, Bruno Fernandes and Co. must first overcome the tricky Brighton this weekend, which could gravely hinder their preparations for the Rangers showdown.

Liga MX and International friendlies only on TUDN and Univisión this week

A special week is already underway for "futbol" fans in the United States, and it is about to get better with some of the games they will be able to watch on Univisión and TUDN.

The network will feature some of the top matches in Liga MX, starting on Thursday with their special coverage of América's game against Tijuana. Las Águilas, fresh off a three-peat, face the team from Mexico's northern border with the same young squad that defeated Querétaro last week.

Next up, the company will feature four more games on Friday and Saturday, two each day, with Friday's matches including Guadalajara facing Necaxa and Toluca vs Monterrey, a game where two title contenders will lock horns. Atlas and León, who recently signed James Rodríguez, will put an end to the network's coverage on Saturday.

The week will also carry an international game for Mexico's national team. El Tri continues working with their mindset on the 2026 World Cup, and a young but talented squad will travel to South America and face Brazil's Internacional. The game will be up for grabs on both Univisión and TUDN.

'Sensational' Arsenal back in title race: Arteta

Mikel Arteta warned Liverpool that "sensational" Arsenal are back in the Premier League title race after beating Tottenham 2-1 in the north London derby on Wednesday.

Desperately needing a win to close the gap on leaders Liverpool, Arteta's side staged a stirring fightback after Son Heung-min's early opener for Tottenham.

Dominic Solanke's own goal hauled Arsenal level before Leandro Trossard's strike put them ahead late in the first half at the raucous Emirates Stadium.

Second-placed Arsenal's first win in four games in all competitions moved them within four points of Liverpool.

Although Arne Slot's team have a game in hand and remain title favorites, Arteta is convinced Arsenal have what it takes to track down the Anfield club. Read more…

Mammoth Haaland contract 'exceptional news' for Man City: Guardiola

Pep Guardiola said on Friday Erling Haaland's new nine-and-a-half-year contract at Manchester City is "exceptional news" for the Premier League champions.

The 24-year-old striker's existing deal was due to expire in June 2027 but he has now committed his future to the club for the next decade.

The Norwegian made an instant impact after arriving in Manchester from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and his overall tally for the club is a remarkable 111 goals in 126 games.

Haaland's decision to commit his long-term future to City is a major coup for the club during a season in which they have unexpectedly struggled on the pitch.

Guardiola, speaking just hours after City announced the blockbuster deal, said the length of the agreement showed Haaland's confidence in the future of the club, who have dominated English football over the past decade. Read more…

Aston Villa ruin Moyes' Everton return

David Moyes' return as Everton manager failed to muster a response from the toothless Toffees in a 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Ollie Watkins' winner early in the second half lifted Villa up to seventh, just three points off the Premier League's top four.

By contrast, 16th-placed Everton are looking over their shoulders, just one point above the relegation zone.

A run of no wins and just one goal in his last five games in charge cost Sean Dyche his job as Everton boss.

Moyes made his name during an 11-year stint in charge at Goodison Park from 2002 to 2013, a period that included a fourth-place Premier League finish in 2005 and an FA Cup final appearance in 2009. Read more…

Police probe abuse of Havertz's wife after Arsenal star's woes

Police have launched an investigation into social media abuse aimed at Arsenal forward Kai Havertz's wife after his latest poor performance.

Havertz missed a penalty in Arsenal's shootout defeat against Manchester United in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Following Arsenal's second successive loss, the Germany international's wife, Sophia, reposted two abusive messages she had received on Instagram.

A police spokesman told Britain's Press Association: "Officers have received a report of malicious communications towards a Hertfordshire resident on Sunday 12 January. Enquiries are under way."

Speaking on Tuesday, on the eve of Arsenal's Premier League match against Tottenham, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta flagged the "terrible consequences" of online abuse. Read more…

Van Dijk laughs off talk of Liverpool wobble after more dropped points

Virgil van Dijk has played down suggestions that Premier League leaders Liverpool are having a wobble after they drew 1-1 against Nottingham Forest to stay six points clear at the summit.

Diogo Jota came off the bench to earn a point at the City Ground on Tuesday, canceling out Chris Wood's early opener, but the Reds were unable to find a winner despite creating numerous chances.

Arne Slot's men, chasing a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title, still have a comfortable cushion at the top of the table despite winning just three of their past seven league games.

They also lost 1-0 to Tottenham in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final last week. Read more…

Man City's Premier League title defense is over: Foden

Phil Foden admitted Manchester City's bid to win a fifth successive Premier League title is over after the troubled champions drew 2-2 at Brentford.

Foden netted twice to put City in control against the Bees on Tuesday, but they collapsed late in the game, with Yoane Wissa and Christian Norgaard earning a point for the home side.

Sixth-placed City are languishing 12 points behind leaders Liverpool and Foden conceded they will have to focus on finishing in the top four rather than winning another title.

"The title? Yeah, yeah, it's done for sure, it's done," the England forward said. Read more…

Klopp excited about Red Bull role as he dismisses return to management

Jurgen Klopp expressed excitement on Tuesday about his new job as head of global soccer at Red Bull while also dismissing any suggestion the role could be a precursor to returning to management in the near future.

The former Liverpool manager was appointed to the role last year and started in January.

"I finished seven months ago at Liverpool and I did it consciously. I said I am not the right man for the job anymore but I never said I wouldn't work again, and a few months later the opportunity came up," the German said at a press conference at the energy drinks company's headquarters in Salzburg, Austria.

"I wanted to be part of it and now I realize more and more every day not only that I am excited but also that I can be quite useful."

Klopp insisted he was happy to be away from the daily grind of club management after more than two decades working in a dugout almost without a break. Read more…

Neymar says Mbappe 'jealous' over Messi during PSG spell

Brazilian striker Neymar said Thursday that former Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe became "jealous" of his relationship with Lionel Messi when the Argentine superstar joined the club in 2021.

Speaking on a podcast hosted by former Brazil striker Romario, Neymar blamed a clash of egos for the failure of the three stars to gel during their spell together at the French club.

The 32-year-old Neymar, who left PSG for Saudi club Al-Hilal in 2023, said he initially got on well with Mbappe when the France international joined him at PSG in 2017.

"I had my issues with him, we had a little fight, but he was a boy who at the beginning, when he arrived, was fundamental," Neymar said of Mbappe. Read more…

No Premier League clubs charged with PSR breaches

The Premier League will not issue any fresh charges against clubs over breaches of its financial rules after all were deemed compliant for the 2023/24 campaign, though Leicester could still be sanctioned over a charge brought last season.

It is understood that no clubs have been issued with a complaint for a breach of the profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) in relation to accounts submitted for 2023/24 by a December 31 deadline.

However, a dispute over whether the league had jurisdiction to charge Leicester in March last year remains ongoing.

PSR means clubs are not allowed to lose more than £105 million ($128 million) over three-season rolling periods.

Everton and Nottingham Forest were both punished last season for PSR breaches. Everton were docked eight points and Forest docked four, though both survived in the top flight. Read more…

Barca chief Laporta says he is blameless over Olmo registration issue

Barcelona president Joan Laporta defended his handling of the Dani Olmo registration issue and lashed out at enemies attacking the club in a fiery speech on Tuesday.

Midfielder Olmo and striker Pau Victor both missed two matches after La Liga and the Spanish football federation (RFEF) refused them new licenses to play, saying Barcelona had failed to meet the deadline at the end of 2024.

The financially struggling Catalan giants sold seats in VIP boxes at their under-construction Spotify Camp Nou stadium to Middle Eastern investors to help pass La Liga's strict financial fair play restrictions for the new licenses.

Barcelona approached Spain's national sports council for a temporary measure that would allow the duo to play before a final ruling is made on their case against La Liga and the RFEF, which they were granted last week.

"Nothing which has happened in these last weeks regarding the registrations has surprised us," Laporta told reporters in a news conference that lasted nearly two hours. Read more…
