Pep Guardiola lands UCL milestone as Man City seals Last 16 berth

Pep Guardiola safeguarded his 100 percent record of successfully making it to the last 16 stage of every UEFA Champions League campaign in his managerial career with Man City's win on Wednesday. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager's side earned a hard-fought 1-0 win at Olympiacos to consolidate their status as table toppers in Group C.

It was generally an odd match-up for the Citizens as the scoreline barely reflected their overall input. Having ended the proceeding with 11 of their 22 shots being on target, they only had a goal to show for. The credits went to Phil Foden who continued in his fine scoring form by turning home a backheel pass from Raheem Sterling inside the 35th minute.

In effect, City maintained their perfect start to this season's campaign, taking their point tally in Group C to 12 in four outings. The Etihad outfit, who now have a guaranteed spot in the Round of 16, have accumulated 10 goals in the process while conceding just one.

For Pep Guardiola, the night's result meant that he has progressed from the UEFA Champions League group stages in all 12 attempts as a coach - the best 100 percent record by any manager. In that, he has only made it to the finals of the competition on two occasion, tasting success on both occasions with Barcelona.
