Griezmann’s father publicly slams Setien after Barcelona’s 2-2 draw vs Atletico

Antoine Griezmann’s Barcelona career, unfortunately, hit a new low during Tuesday’s clash with Atletico Madrid, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Not only was the $135M marque summer signing start on the bench for the third time in the Blaugrana’s last four league outings, the 2018 World Cup winner was thrown on the pitch with only one minute left on normal time despite the Catalan giants being in desperate need of a winning goal.

Could the Frenchman be the next Philippe Coutinho – Barcelona’s next mega-money flop? Sadly, things are looking bleak for the former Atletico ace, with even Quique Setien touching on the topic that is his exclusion from the squad. The tactician acknowledged that the 29-year-old is going through a rough spell at Camp Nou and that he would talk to the attacker but stressed he would not apologize for the player’s lack of playing time.

This response garnered anger from the Griezmann family, with Antoine’s father taking to social media to blast the under-fire manager over the treatment of his son. The player’s dad took to Instagram to hit back at Setien, posting a screenshot of the tactician’s quotes in order to take aim at the gaffer’s future at the club.

"In order to speak you must have the keys to the truck, and you are simply a passenger," Griezmann's father wrote on Instagram.

The post was later deleted but the message had already gotten across. Was there more to his words than mere frustration? Was he letting the world know that Setien’s time at the Camp Nou is limited and that he will not be in charge of Barcelona for long?

Rumors of his sacking have crept into the headlines, with the club’s poor displays seen as the driving force. Several outlets claimed the board would bring the hammer down if he failed to beat Atletico, which he did. If this occurred, Francisco García Pimienta, the current Barcelona B boss, is the favorite to step in.

As for the Catalan giants, the 2-2 draw vs Atletico is all but the final nail to the coffin for their title race. They are a point behind league leaders Real Madrid but Los Blancos are yet to play their game as they will be taking on Getafe on Thursday. Victory would put them four points ahead of Messi and Co. and well on their way to the Spanish Primera Division crown.
