LA Galaxy vs New York RB - Preview and Team news

The time has come to know the identity of the winner of this year's MLS Cup. Fate worked its ways to see two of the founding teams in the league reaching the title match, especially since one of them did not seem like a true fit to even reacht the postseason.

On one side we have the Los Angeles Galaxy, the most winning team in MLS history. Many names have come and gone from the club since their last crown, but now they seem like the safe bet to win the title. The Galaxy get to this game after finishing the regular season in second place of the Western Conference in a tight race. Once in the playoffs, they eliminated Colorado after beating them twice in a row in the first round. Then, Greg Vanney's men displayed their goalscoring skills with a 6-2 win over Minnesota in the Conference semi-finals. After that clash, the Angelinos sealed their spot in the title clash with a one-nil win over Seattle.

The other contestant in this run is New York Red Bulls, who will have quite a story to tell even if they do not lift the title. The Red Bulls finished the regular season in seventh place, and went on to eliminate 2023 champions Columbus Crew after two straight wins (one after penalties). The team then proceeded to defeat New York City 2-0. Once they made it to the Conference finals, they proved all their haters wrong to emerge victorious thanks to a goal by Andrés Reyes, giving Sandro Schwarz and his men a chance to fight for silverware when no one saw them as candidates.

The clash will be an epic showdown between representatives from two cities with no love for each other. As things stand, we could hint that the clash could be tougher than expected, as both sides get to the game with meaningful absences. LA Galaxy will have to play the game without Riqui Puig and Martín Cáceres, out due to injury, and with all eyes set on Marco Reus' fitness.

Meanwhile, the Red Bulls will also have to make do without Roald Mitchell and Kyle Duncan, both out due to knee injuries. There could be an extra injury concern for Schwaz, as Felipe Carballo could miss out due to a foot issue.
